By Mike Spieker GREENBUSH, Minn. (September 2, 2020) - Greenbush Race Park held their annual Lightning Sprint Special last Saturday night for the Lucas Oil POWRi Minn-Kota / NLSA Lightning Sprints. A strong field of 15 cars were checked in for action. The night began with heat race wins by Kelsi Pederson and Dexter Dvergsten.
Lawrence Veralrud and Jason Berg made up the front row for the 25-lapper. The feature got off to a rough start for several drivers, including Wesley Van Drunen, who got upside down on the opening lap to bring out the red flag. On the ensuing restart, the red flag was displayed once again. The incident occurred when Alan Truscinski and Veralrud made contact out of turn four. As a result, Veralrud suffered steering damage and was subsequently hit by Pederson, which sent her upside down. Truscinski also collected Corey Olson. When the dust settled, Truscinski was the only driver of the cars involved that was able to continue. After restarting at the tail of the field, Truscinski was able to salvage a fourth-place finish. From there, the race went green to checkered as fourth-place starter Alex Truscinski took the point on lap two. Hot on his heels was the No. 11 of Dexter Dvergsten. Truscinski went on to lead 24 of the 25 laps to collect his sixth win of the season over Dvergsten by just under one second. Over eight seconds behind the lead duo, Cody Swenson finished third to round out the podium. Sunday’s scheduled event at Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon, N.D. was rained out. A big weekend of racing is on tap for the Lucas Oil POWRi Minn-Kota / NLSA Lightning Sprints with a doubleheader at Greenbush Race Park on Saturday and Sunday.
