GREENBUSH, Minn. (August 26, 2020) - The Lucas Oil POWRi Minn-Kota / NLSA Lightning Sprints were in action at two tracks over the weekend. They made their final appearance of the season at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D. on Friday night and made a stop at Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, Minn. on Saturday. To start the final night in Fargo, Cody Swenson and point leader, Kelsi Pederson, picked up heat race wins. After the redraw, Pederson found herself lined up 10th on the field of 12 cars, making for a night of work for her.
After some uncertainty as to whether Alex Truscinski would be back on the track after having to completely rebuild his car, he was able to make the repairs and got back on the track. He brought the field to green and quickly jumped out to the lead. Rookie driver Jake Haugeberg brought out the first caution due to an oil fire. He was okay. On the ensuing restart, Pederson had worked her way into the fourth spot, chasing Alan Truscinski and Dexter Dvergsten. With six to go, Pederson suffered a mechanical failure and had to pull off the racetrack. Alex Truscinski jumped out to the lead as the race resumed and went on to take the win. Dvergsten, Alan Truscinski, Jason Berg, and Bryce Haugeberg rounded out the top five. As the series made the trip to Greenbush Race Park on Saturday night, Dexter Dvergsten unloaded as the series point leader after Pederson’s misfortune at Red River Valley. Dvergsten dominated the night, picking up the heat race win and sailing to the feature win. Dvergsten led 14 of the 15 laps to claim the win over Alex Truscinski by over 1.5 seconds. Alan Truscinski, Pederson and Swenson completed the top five. This weekend the series will have a doubleheader Saturday at Greenbush Race Park with an added payout of $90 to start. The series will also make its only appearance of the season at the high-banked quarter-mile of Sheyenne Speedway in Lisbon, N.D. on Sunday.
